Computer Refurbishing Policy
02-27-20: Computer Refurbishing Policy
Over the last several years a trend has emerged that has grown and continues to gain momentum. That trend is the precipitous decline in the use by consumers of Windows based desktop PCs. As a consequence of that trend, the VCC and the Refurbishing Group have decided that the time has come to terminate the refurbishing of desktop PCs. After Friday 4/10/2020 the VCC will no longer accept any desktop hardware or peripheral devices, and prior to 4/10, as in the past, ONLY Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 desktops, monitors (19” +), keyboards, & mice will be accepted.
If you have any other equipment, please bring it the Villages wide recycling event sponsored by Sumter County scheduled for April 4, 2020 at Lake Okahumpka Park, 6085 E. SR 44 in Wildwood from 9:00am to 3:00pm. If you miss that date please be aware that both Best Buy & Staples have ongoing electronic recycling programs. Contact either of these retailers for details.
To be perfectly clear, any desktop PCs or desktop hardware brought to the 4/17/2020 meeting will NOT be accepted. Starting on 4/17 and going forward ONLY laptop PCs that run Windows 7, 8.1, or 10 will be accepted.
